I am a very stingy person when it comes to spending my money. Ask ANY of my friends...they'll tell you. So, when I have to spend money on food to live at my apartment, it really drives me, for lack of better words, AWOL when my roommates eat it. I had spent all summer working 40 hour weeks for minimum wage on the hot asphalt of Lincoln Highway, crack patching for the Van Wert County Engineers. I felt that I would certainly have enough money saved up so i wouldn't be starving this school year, but as i previous stated before, I'm very, very stingy, and when they eat my food i just think of how that's yet another dinner they've eaten that I have not! As I sit here, smelling the delicious pizza baking in the oven that, of course, is mine...(that they are eating) makes me want to do something very...rude. I really just want to go out there and take it right out of the oven, put it on a plate and say, "Wow! Thanks for making this guys!", and take it back to my room and eat it in solitude.
My best friend, Taylor Springer, and I, share a room together, but we also share an apartment with three other girls who have their own bedrooms. From the very beginning, we all decided that we would buy our own groceries and we would share condiments. Taylor and I split our grocery bill in half, because we, generally, like the same things and the other girls do their own thing. Since we have moved in, I have not touched any of their food. Taylor and I even gave them all the space in the kitchen to put all of their food and we have to put our food in a tub under the bed...very jank...I know. The thing is, we hate confrontation! I try to avoid any altercation at all times, so, we haven't said one thing. So instead of causing any unnecessary tension, we decided to invest in some bright neon stickers to put on our food! Cross your fingers for us in hopes that our plan is a success!!
Hi McKenzie! I think you and I have the exact same problem with people eating our food! I live with my boyfriend and we have two other roomates. We always offer our roomates food whenever we have leftovers of something we made for supper and they always accept. But when we leave the house, they seem too think it's ok to eat all the food we bought for ourselves! How annoying and rude! We even put our names on the stuff we buy so they know it's ours. What's worse is they leave everything open. They leave the cabinet drawers open and their mess left on the table. It's so ridiculous!
ReplyDeleteThe other night my boyfriend and I came home to them eating our cereal! They even tried to tell us that it was their own cereal. I was like are you kidding me!? I was so mad I just went to my room and tried to forget about it.
I don't really like confrontation either. I guess I'm just going to let it go for now or let my boyfriend take care of it since they are his friends. Unless it comes to a point where I have to say something I will. Because like you said it's your own money that your spending on grocery's. Not their money! People can be so rude, i swear! Well, I hope you get your whole situation figured out and I hope the stickers work out! I may have to steal that idea!
The stickers have somewhat worked…my roommate Taylor, the one I share my groceries with, made lemonade the other night and one of the girls comes home after work and sees the lemonade and asks, “Ooo, who made the lemonade?” Taylor said she did. Next thing we know she pours herself a glass. Right in front of us! Okay, ya, its just a glass of lemonade, but that’s not it, it is the fact that it wont be the only glass of lemonade she’ll drink.
DeleteI am a milk girl. I drink milk for pretty much every meal. Well, recently switched to Skim Milk…I know weird, but I honestly do not taste much a difference. Before doing this, I noticed they were drinking my milk like it was theirs. So, since I switched, I was really hoping this would scare them! Most people think “eww SKIM?” How wrong I was! I put my sticker at each level my milk is and every time I open the fridge to pour myself a glass, it is lower than the sticker! EVERY TIME! Maybe I’m overreacting but its so annoying to have to buy a gallon of milk almost twice a week. Especially since Taylor is lactose intolerant so she never drinks it.
There are over seven trillion nerves in the human body and they have succeeding in getting on each and every one of them. Very dramatic, but it is so frustrating, I’m glad I’m not the only one…I take that back! I wish you didn’t have to go through this either, Danielle.
Never knew blogging would be a good venting session! Hahahahaha
Hi! I think that the stickers are a WONDERFUL idea. Also, I would be just as mad if someone ate my food. I treat my food almost like a child, guarding and protecting it with my life it seems like. I think that you should maybe talk to them about it? I feel like nothing will be fixed unless you say something. Also, kind of off topic, but, working 40 hour weeks in the hot sun that we had over the summer?! YOU GO GIRL! I thought working in an office building by myself for 40 hours a week was bad. I never realized how lucky I was! Anyway, like I said, I would try talking it out with them. And if it continues to happen, maybe all five of you need to all pitch in money and buy everything together so there is not a fight between all of you. But I do agree that what they are doing is EXTREMELY rude! I would feel horrible if iI did that to someone! I would think that they would at least have some sense to ask you before they pig out on your food! It is one thing for everyone to share and ask for things, but I feel like this is stealing! I feel like the food police should be after this! Well, I guess all I can say is, GOOD LUCK!
