As a freshman I have to take this
class called SDE, which is basically a first year experience class. This is
completely beside the point but sometimes I accidently call it STD. They sound
so similar and I rarely know I say it until my friends look at me like I have
lost my mind. It is one of those moments where you think you know what you are
talking about then you realize you made a mistake, then your cheeks get pink
and your arm pits start to sweat. Ya, one of those moments. But anyways, I absolutely,
undeniably loathe that class! First of all my class is on Wednesday and that
just makes it ten times worse because you just want the weekend to be here
already. Second, it is a complete waste of time. For homework we have to write
three journal entries that consist of answering questions about how to better
ourselves in order to become a successful person. On top of that we have these
academic plans that require us to write about strategies we have to think up in
order to help us study, memorize, write, and read materials. We learned how to
study in high school and the majority of us will continue the way we have
studied throughout college. The class is also a two hour-long class! What could
you possibly talk about for two whole hours? We sit there in groups and make up
a list of five things that takes thirty seconds and the prof. gives us about
ten minutes. The only good thing about this class is that it only lasts until
the middle of October. Thank heavens!!
SDE-101 was one of the most enjoyable classes I had last winter quarter. It was five weeks, and easy class, and to top it off a very easy "A". Just do your easy weekly assinments and then write a quick paper to learn how to use your e-portfolio. This class goes by quickly and if you have creative teacher is never boring and time goes by fast. It helped me be more comfortable with school again. I hope you will find it easy and it goes by quick for you. The best thing I learn was the way I look at my text books and how to pull the most information out of them. At least it is almost over for you and yes I agree that it seam like such an uin-nessisary class, but if you can get an a then it is that much better for your GPA. That is how I would look at it. Well, good luck with th rest of your class, plus I am pretty sure you do not have final.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I have to take that class this following semester, and I am not going to lie; I am not looking forward to it one single bit. See, I have a lot of friends that say they are currently taking the class for credit this semester, and they always say that it is their worst class; grade wise and interest wise. I, somewhat do not really fully see the point in having a necessity in taking the class. Granted, I have not taken the class yet, but, from what I hear, it is not helping many people in their studying strategies or their social lives one single bit. That is just my single opinion though. Although it sounds like a terrible time, I really should not judge the class before taking it. I honestly kind of like the idea that it can help you in your studying strategies. Although, again, I heard that it is not assisting anyone else to a high degree, I think the way they teach you different types of studying could be beneficial to me. Another thing that sounds at least slightly good for the community is that you have to volunteer for a certain amount of time for your community. I am not sure if your class has to do this as well, but my one friend told me he has to volunteer for about 6 hours for the class. Although this sounds tedious, I think it could really help out the community. I also think it’s funny that you mess up the name of the class with STD, because it seems like the hating on the class is spreading around people like wild fire, haha!
