Career Path 1

My dream job has always been to become a dental hygienist. As a little girl, I was always soooo excited to go to the dentist just to get my annual teeth cleaning. The dental hygienist probably hated me because as they told me to always keep mouth wide open I would continue to ask them questions about their job. They would always say open a little wider or keep your tongue out of the way. I never really seemed to get the hint, I guess! Dental hygienist make a salary of about sixty thousand dollars on average. You work about four days a week. The only problem is is there are no health insurance benefits. Many dental hygienist work as part time as well. I would much rather work full time but if I have to, I will probably have to work part time at two different dental practices.  Hopefully, things fall in to place for me because it’s hard to get a job as a dental hygienist because there are so many. I shadowed a dental hygienist back in high school and they said that the best part of their job is the people. I would consider myself a definite people person. I love talking to new people and also making new friends. I believe that is a quality you have attain to be a good dental hygienist because many people dislike going to the dentist. So to make people feel comfortable because of a friendly voice is a good trait to have.

In Class Prompt #11

A witch, Santa Claus, and the Easter Bunny break into a museum to steal the Christmas sleigh that the museum employees had stolen from the North Pole. The reason Santa Claus asked the witch and the Easter Bunny was because he needed people who were sly and cunning. He asked the witch to do it because the witch would cast a forgetful spell on people who saw them traipsing through the museum. The witch was known for her spells and her forgetful spell was cake to do. Santa Claus asked the Easter Bunny to help him about because The Easter Bunny does not use and form of magic to lay eggs around people’s yards. He can sneak around anywhere with out getting caught so that is why he is an asset.
Santa Claus, the witch, and the Easter Bunny all sneak in through the back window of an office. They get through the locked door with the help of the witch’s magic. All of a sudden, they hear the clinking of keys. It is the security officers! There is not anywhere to run and then the witch casts a spell to put Christmas trees along the wall. The Easter Bunny sneakily gets Santa and the witch by without the officers noticing. They reach the end of the hall where they see the sleigh on display. Its shimmering red is sparkling in the dim light. Santa, the witch, and the Easter Bunny all climb in and Santa finally gets to use his magic and he says a few jolly words and they were off.

Biology Lab Cadaver (Other Class)

The other day in our Biology Lab, all of us students had the opportunity to see a cadaver! It was AWESOME to say the least. As class started, we all had this excited anticipation that radiated throughout the room. Everyone was anxious to get a glimpse of a dead person. As we pulled on our “morgue entering” robes and stretched the tight latex gloves over our hands, the suspense killed us. We walked in to the eerily chilled, white room wait to witness the corpse. Mrs. Haggard opened a huge refrigerated room door that contained a large stainless steel box. She wheeled into us and opened the container. The body was in a body bag, which was quickly unzipped. The cadaver lay motionless on the table. At first it was a little uncomfortable because she was an elderly woman. She was in her eighties with incisions all over her body. It was weird because her skin had somewhat of a yellowish tone. This woman had obviously had a tracheostomy, so I had obviously asked why the tube was still there after three years. Mrs. Haggard said that they usually talke the bodies directly from the emergency room to the lab just as they are. The poor woman also had terrible black and flat lungs making it extremely hard for her to breath when died. She had also been atrophying before she died because the energy of her muscles was being used for her organs. It was a very interesting and educational experience.

Biology Lab (Other Class)

Now, this is a class that I really like to participate in. Jeanna Haggard is a really good teacher. Not only that, but she also makes her tests study-able. Is that even a word? Oh well! Anyways, she makes her class very interesting by relating it to us in a way that is easily understood and shows us exactly where certain places on the human body are located. She is really good at keeping herself available for all of her students. She gives us time during class to go over all the materials that are supposed to be studied. She keeps our lessons interesting by adding a few personal stories for us to relate it to. Mrs. Haggard also gives us a few pointers on how to remember certain parts of the body that may be a little difficult to comprehend. Although, I may rave and rave over her, my roommate seems to believe she is not a very good educator. I can’t imagine why, considering she is one of my favorites. Maybe she just likes our class more! Who knows! I do not see anything wrong with her teaching methods at all. She gives us plenty of time to study the models during class and clear representation of what it should look like in the book and on slides. She also makes me interested by allowing us to dissect a few thins. We recently dissected a sheep brain and a cow eye. It was really cool, although, some people in the class were not as interested as I was.

Biology Lecture (Other Class)

First of all, I hate my Biology Lecture. I really cannot stand my professor for that class! He is a terrible teacher and doesn’t make it easy to understand at all. Taylor (my best friend) and I, have to teach ourselves everything. Ever day of class, we have to print out a new set of notes, which is totally fine, but the problem isn’t the notes. Our professors seems to think that doing the bare minimum of reading the notes out loud is and adequate lesson.  There are about four to five chapters that we go over before we test over all the materials. That is a lot of chapters and each chapter has about ten pages worth of slides with six slides on each pages. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the easy math of six times ten. Not only are their about sixty slides to each chapter but as I stated before there are about four to five chapters that are tested over. Not only that, but also each test is about fifty questions long. So, I am studying about two hundred and forty to three hundred slides worth of material and only being test of fifty things. I know I am ranting but to me that is just absolutely ridiculous. Is it not? That is a lot of information to retain for a mere fifty questions. ANNNDD…it does not help that he is a terrible teacher and simply reads the powerpoint slides off to us as if we cannot read.

RR #7 Hopkin's Essay

Megan Hopkin’s “Training the Next Teachers for America: A Proposal for Reconceptualizing teach for America” is about how Hopkin’s wants to alter the TFA to make lasting changes in the field of education. Megan Hopkin’s believes she was underprepared when teaching her first year of first graders.  She says that even though she has grown to be a better educator of the years, it was a struggle. She feels that in order for more teachers to be better educated and better equipped, there needs to be a few alterations to the group. Hopkin’s stated that these recommendations will enhance the programs attributes. This is especially imperative now because our leaders today are located in many underprivileged schools.
Hopkin’s gives a step by step throughout the entire essay. She makes it very clear of her suggestions and gives elaborate details of how the new ideas will allow her solution to be successful. Hopkin’s uses subtitles in order to direct her readers in the right direction. This gives us students a good idea for what to write in our papers. I like how we go through all the entire essay and label what is necessary for the essay. It helps me to understand what is good and what is bad to include in the paper.  Throughout this essay I have ever paragraph pretty much labeled with pen marks all over it. This helps me to get the correct format of what this paper should look like. Although it is still going to be pretty hard.

RR #6 Lantry's Article

I absolutely loved this article. It was very intriguing because of how true it was. Women are stupid in a way. We fall for the claims that advertisements promise. Some of the illustrations presented in this article included women seeing themselves with men in their lives, beautiful woman, or beautiful celebrities promoting the product. The products promised that if you do not use this soap or this mouthwash, you would not get a guy. The pictures showed women using the product and trying to better themselves. The pictures with the soaps show women with clear skin standing over a water filled basin. The water filled basin is intended on representing holy water, which would signify that it is “right” the use the soap. The other soap ad includes the celebrity with the catchy “feel good” phrase. The celebrity seems to be smiling in every picture signifying that not only is she happy with this product but you will be too if you try it. At the bottom of the ad, it shows the same celebrity with her husband representing that you will get married if you use Lux soap.  In the Listerine mouthwash ad, there is a really pretty, youthful girl sitting on the floor with a huge smile on her face. She is slightly leaning forward to represent that boys will kiss you because your breath will not smell. The ad also includes eye-grabbing phrase. Like I said before, women are stupid. They will fall for anything when it comes to something they want and these ads really know how to manipulate women into thinking that it is what they want.
